OKTAATOLYE is an award-winning architecture office co-founded by Gürkan Okta and Birge Yıldırım Okta, practicing architecture, landscape architecture and urban design since 2005. Granted more than ten prestigious national and international awards, OKTAA expands the boundaries of spatial design towards theory, research and cultural analysis. As an interdisciplinary studio OKTAA, aims to create know-how with a dynamic and innovative practice that is based on a collaborative sprit.

Birge Yıldırım Okta (1983) is currently continuing her research on niche theory and production of public as a visiting scholar in Columbia University, Department of Philosophy. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Architecture, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2005; Master’s Degree from Histoy of Architecture from ITU; and her Ph.D. in Architecture from ITU in 2014. During her Ph.D., she studied at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) as a special student. For her Ph.D. studies, she was granted TUBİTAK Scholarship (2012-2013). She is working as an Assistant Professor in Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture since 2014. She has taught courses on production of public space, history of landscape architecture, urban design, basic design, experimental design, and architecture and landscape studio. She won several national and international competitions.  Her research topics include experimental design, landscape design, and architectural design, production of public space and urban history and urban culture.

Gürkan Okta (1982) received his Bachelor’s Degree from Istanbul Technical University (ITU). After he graduated as an emerging and influential architect, he worked in plenty of offices including NORM, TRAFO and GAD, as a project coordinator, designing and planning in multiple scales. During practicing in other architectural firms, some of his designs are granted MIPIM, The Chicago Athenaeum and World Architecture Community awards. He won several national and international competitions and attended plenty of architectural organizations and wokshops. He is continuing his practices in large scale architectural and urban design projects.
